When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills – Chinese proverb.
Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) in partnership with Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) hosted Windergy 2019, the largest annual conference and exhibition on Wind Energy. Formed by industry and for the industry, Windergy India strives to bring together key Government authorities, International and National Wind Energy players, Service Providers, cutting edge Innovators, leading Financial Entities and other stakeholders on a single platform. Through this event, the organization work towards building a better future for the generations to come.
As the second largest country in terms of population, we require enormous amount of electricity on a daily basis. Some of the energy is produced by us while some is bought from other countries and this is how we try to supply electricity just enough to meet our needs. If we continue to use non- renewable sources of energy like coal or petroleum, we will soon reach a point when these will be exhausted. Thus, we need to find alternative sustainable resources that can serve the population while making us self- sufficient. Our Government has allocated a hike of 8.7% to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in the Union Budget 2017-18. India has an ambitious target of 175 Giga Watts (GW) of solar, wind and other renewable energy by 2022. With such a constructive opportunity, we should make the most of it, in terms of developing windmills. Tamil Nadu was the first state that realized the importance and need of renewable energy. Seeing a small mill converting energy of wind into rotational energy by means of blades, they set up a separate committee -Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) in 1985. Now, there are a growing number of wind- powered states in India. With Tamil Nadu as the leading producer of wind energy, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka follow closely. Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala are still on the path of developments.
