A time for Shopping-

A time of happiness and togetherness, a time to celebrate with your loved ones, a time for celebrations and gifts! And most importantly a time for e-commerce websites to come up with the most delightful, attractive and tons of great deals for the customers. No wonder then, there is a surge in online shopping during this time.

Why is online shopping such a huge thing?

And why not? Portals offer very amazing discounts, attractive deals and most important a great lot of variety to choose from. So obviously there is no reason for anyone as to NOT to buy from any of these portals.

Shopping online during the festive season is fun alright! With loads of amazing products available at your disposal, you are totally spoilt for choice.

What’s more online shopping gives us the comfort of buying from one’s home unlike waiting at long queues or in crowded stores. It also saves a lot of time!!!

Shop but with precaution

However, there are certain precautionary measures to be taken while shopping online.

First, we highlight some top risks to look out for while shopping online.

Websites which have the https and the padlock sign signifies that your online activity is secured and no intruder will be able to extract information from you. It is a safe protocol which encrypts/protects all your information.

Why? Because a credit card is not actually directly connected to the money you own and offers more security while doing transactions online. Now it’s not that you cannot use a debit card at all or the risk is more but using a debit card will make you more vulnerable to online thefts.

Purchase from the brands which you know and trust. Check for reviews from previous customers not only about the quality of the product but also in terms of transactions. Ensure that they have a professional customer care in case there are any discrepancies in the delivery of the product.

With the advent of smart phones, mobile shopping is becoming the next big thing and it’s getting bigger and better. But it is always a safe bet to shop through a private network or while doing transactions. Shopping online via a public Wi-Fi can be a risky situation as your transactions can be exposed to potential thieves who are out on the prowl.

Scammers often use a clever tactic which is often called ‘cross-site’ scripting to embed a hyperlink which appears to be the actual merchant site but it can actually give your credit card information when you enter your payment details in the payment web form. Verify that the coupon link is from the actual merchant site which you have already registered.

Don’t wait for your online bill to come at the end of the month. Be alert about regularly checking your payments statements. Ensure you don’t see any fraudulent charges. If you do see it, immediately look into the matter. In case of credit cards don’t be in a hurry to pay the bill unless you are sure of the fact that the charges are accurate. You have 30 days to notify the bank about the charges.

Lastly, use a very strong password which is difficult to crack so that again your transactions are safely carried out.

Be an alert shopper and don’t just blindly follow the trends. Make smart and informed choices. Just because a particular product is trending doesn’t mean you have to immediately buy it. Compare the various prices on trusted shopping sites and go for the best bet!

We wish you happy shopping and a very Happy Diwali!
