“Writing isn’t about using big words to impress. It’s about using simple words in an impressive way.” – Sierra Bailey

Content marketing is a tricky business and marketing content on social media is even trickier.

In today’s age of social media, everybody is a writer. Whether it is a full-length post on LinkedIn, a concise one for Facebook, a microblog for Twitter, or merely a comment on someone’s post on your favorite social media platform, literally everyone out there is a writer in their own right.

But with so much content being continuously and consistently churned out, the question is how do you make yours stand out? How do you ensure that the readers engage onto your post rather than the tens and thousands of others written on similar lines?

Of course your content should be unique and original—that’s a given. Everybody knows that. But is there anything else you can do to stand out?

Well, the simple answer is YES! You can present your content in such a way that people just get impressed by its visual appeal even before they delve deeper into its substance.

In this blog, I am going to talk about some out-of-the-box content formatting techniques to make your social media posts stand out.

1. Format your content in descending or ascending order.

write every single daywrite
write every daywrite daily
write dailywrite every day
writewrite every single day

What do you say? Would content formatted in this fashion succeed in grabbing attention? I say, instantly. People will be interested to read differently presented content and you’re likely to get more likes and shares, courtesy your formatting trick!

2. Create lists … longer than five items at a time.

  • Lists are effective ways to show content.
  • Lists are effective ways to flaunt content.
  • Lists are effective ways to display content.
  • Lists are effective ways to exhibit content.
  • Lists are effective ways to unveil content.
  • Lists are effective ways to portray content.

Contrary to popular belief, people don’t like reading flat content with big paragraphs. Instead, shorter sentences with breaks are preferred more.

That’s why, creating lists—without any white spaces in between—tends to be more effective. Also, the visual quotient is enhanced if your sentences are more or less of the same length.

3. Make effective use of emojis.

If you thought that emojis only work on WhatsApp; well, you’re wrong. There are so many impactful ways in which emojis can be used for content marketing on other social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook as well.

You can use them to for showing direct comparisons:

✔️ Do it this way.

❌ Don’t do it this way.

Or you can use them to list pros and cons separately.

Pros of multitasking:

✔️ Increases Efficiency.

✔️ Multiplies Productivity.

✔️ Enhances Resilience.

Cons of multitasking:

❌ Compromises work quality.

❌ Misplaces work priorities.

❌ Hampers personal skills.

Using the right emojis at the right places will also convey your message to your audience instantly.

4. Use rhythmic patterns to format your content.

Following a specific pattern for displaying your content also makes a difference. Take a look at the text below, for instance:

My new year resolutions for 2023:

  • Writing more content.
  • Writing unique content.
  • Writing content consistently.

How will I achieve them?

  • Making a content calendar.
  • Scheduling my daily content.
  • Doing continuous research.

I will tick the checklist quarterly.

Do you see a pattern in the above example? Yes. It’s the rhythmic 1-3-1-3 pattern, which certainly adds to its visual aesthetic and thus not only catches attention but also makes it easy to understand.

You can also use the 1-2-1-2 or the reverse, 3-1-3-1 and 2-1-2-1 patterns to make your content more visible.

5. Mix and match the formatting ideas to make your content more impactful.

Yes. You can use all these (and more) effectively in a single post and market your content on social media more efficiently and impactfully.

Here’s an example:

My content regime:

👉 write

👉 write daily

👉 write every day

👉 write every single day

How will I achieve this?

🟢 Making a content calendar.

🟢 Scheduling my daily content.

🟢 Doing continuous research.

There are ‘n’ number of ways to format your content for creating impactful social media posts. It all depends on how creative and imaginative one can get.
